Ted Severns is Back! After spending months with his head in the clouds (literally), Ted landed with a tenacious 2nd place finish in Peter Ramberg’s IndyCar Open Lite Series League event Friday evening. For those who may not know, Ted has obtained his pilot’s license… so, he’s literally had his head in the clouds all over the San Francisco Bay area, but Friday night marked his return of our IndyCar program.

Andy and Brian spent the time prepping our DW-12 and their setup was excellent! During qualifying, Joe Flanagan took the pole, but vApex had a strong presence with Brian and Rick locking out the second row in P3 and P4; Kevin got P5, Ted was P8, Andy P9, and JC got P13 in a 15 car field.
The guys in IndyCar Open Lite Series League know how to race, so from the start it was close racing throughout, although the turn 2 exit first caught Kevin’s car, and Andy’s got a bit of damage, and with 5 laps to go, T2 got Rick’s car! Brian and Rick ran up front for the first part of the 50 lap event until Rick decided drifting through T2 at 220 mph was a good idea. Ted made not an error all night and while Rick was drifting and Brian dodging, Ted set his sight on leader Joe Flanagan. By mid-way, Ted was in P3 and Andy had work his way up to P5. On lap 49, Ted took 2nd and at the checked flag, he was only 0.7 sec behind winner Joe Flanagan. Oh yeah… fastest lap of the race? That honor goes to Andy with a 31.360.
It’s great to have Ted back and what a fantastic way to return! He said he had some rust, but his racing skills seemed sharp as ever.
Congrats to all the vApex drivers who were able to race – it was an exciting, clean, race. If you’re interested in IndyCar, Peter Ramberg’s IndyCar Open Lite Series League events are absolutely fantastic – there’s no better IndyCar race. Check us out!
IndyCar Open Lite Series League events are Friday nights at 8PM EST. Season Five begins September 23 at Sonoma. Be there…
