Indianapolis… like a dream come true

Indianapolis… what more can you say – like a dream come true. Indianapolis Motor Speedway, every seat taken by 250,000 screaming fans, Jim Neighbors singing “Back Home Again in Indiana,” and me strapped into this rocket-ship DW-12 in a 26-car IndyCar OPEN LITE League event. Wow- Fantastic!

It all sounded like a great time, right up until the green flag and then I’m not sure what happens to iRacers at Indy, but this race played out like so many others. Due to the numerous yellow flags, the server closed before any details were obtained, but in my dream I believe Brian and Andy both qualified in the Fast Six, with Kevin, Rick, Dave and Mikey more toward mid-pack; JC showed up, but was too late and missed the show.

And yup, just as you might guess, the dream turned into a nightmare with the first yellow occurring... yup, you guessed it - on the 1st lap. A few laps later, there was a second yellow, then a longer period of green flag “racing” or maybe "bumper-cars" as too many drivers were swerving like Michael Schumacher at Monza using the pit wall, the grass, or just plain turning into another car to keep cars behind them. Even the restarts were interesting with cars wrecking on the front straight! Sound familiar? Yup, just like too many iRaces at IMS … which is really too bad because Pete puts a tremendous amount of effort into this league. But, it only takes 1 or 2 bad apples to spoil the whole lot.

At the end of my 50 lap dream, which couldn’t have come any sooner, Andy got 5th, Dave literally inched Rick out for P7, Brian P9, Mikey P10, and Kevin… well, he was a pinball all night and has decided that his new trim color is bad luck. In the nightmare, I seem to recall helmets being thrown and a fight in the parking lot after the race. Oh yeah, back home again…

Still Mikey holds a 30 point lead over Dave. Andy and Rick are battling it our for 8-9, with only 3 points separating them, and Kevin is in… Oh no – THIRTENTH! Yikes… It’s almost like Halloween!
