The Majors Daytona 500 Event was held this past Sunday and again, the vApex Atlantic Team fared incredibly well. Especially when you consider that NASCAR isn't exactly our forte. Maybe it's time to consider that! Anyone want to take up that challenge?
In the Sportsman Split, Erich Smith, driving his #32 vApex Chevrolet won the race with Brian Barney coming in 5th. In a race that was caution free until the last 5 laps, the vApex Duo went and stayed at the front as the caution flew. Since this is "real" racing and with no Green - White - Checker BS (editorial comment by the author...please send all complaints to 1313 Mockingbird Lane, Beverly Hills, CA 90210) The win and the top 5 finish were sealed.

In the Pro split Andy Banfield in the #6 PPG Paints vApex Ford started 5th after his 2nd place finish in the Qualifying Duels race and Chuck Chambliss in his #808 vApex Chevrolet started 8th after finishing 3rd in his Duel. The two vApex cars were able to hook up fairly early and stayed with the lead pack until the first round of green flag pit stops. Banfield then fell off the pace by spinning on the apron leaving pit road after taking only 2 tires. The damage slowed the car significantly and laps were lost. He was never a factor the rest of the race. Chuck stayed up front and led several laps through the race. A late race restart had Chuck on the Top line and he helped push folks to some higher positions, but was left hanging and had to settle for a 9th place finish. Banfield finished in 18th place, 4 laps down.
The vApex Atlantic Team maintained their lead in the Manufacturers Championship and despite the poor day at Daytona, Andy moved up to 3rd Place in overall points.
The next race is in the Silver Crown cars at Phoenix in March.
